One of the best acting coaches in NY and one of the biggest reasons I work today.  Maury cares about his students on a personal level, which for me is a pivotal part of my growth as an actor.  He always believes you can bring more to a scene, a stronger choice. He taught me how to truly tear a script apart and find purpose in every scene, every line, and every word.  He gave me the confidence by reminding me that each and every one of us has something special and interesting to be displayed and constantly stressed the importance of being well physically and emotionally because it translates into your work.  I am a much improved actor since the day we met. I will always go to him for coaching because he loves acting, loves actors and loves life!

As an actor with years of theater experience under my belt, I craved for a unique creative performance experience. Television always fascinated me as a new opportunity to pursue. Examining my many on-camera auditions over the years, I took note of my uncomfortability on-screen. The high level of my theatricality was very apparent on camera. I sought coaching with Maury Ginsberg.  He identified my specific challenges and creatively devised and communicate an approach that enabled me to engage the camera in a much more authentic yet subtle way.  Maury’s creative use of exercises allowed me to address my self-conscious tendencies.  He is facile at dissecting sides so that you know exactly the purpose of the role and how to further the story along.  He trains you to create more range and color within a scene so that a more detailed dimension of character is accomplished.  Maury is an ideal coach and I highly recommend him to anyone.

Maury is really good at pinpointing your strengths and he helps you to build on them. Whether he helps you work within a close-up or medium shot, he gets you to focus on the details.  He has taught me how to communicate with my body before uttering a word. What makes Maury a great teacher is that he asks you the tough questions, he teaches you how to ask yourself the tough questions, and through this he helps you break through your barriers.

I think the best acting teachers are often the best communicators. My first class with Maury was over 10 years ago. I’ve had many teachers since and he is, without a doubt, one of the best I’ve ever had. Whether it’s from his years of experience in the game as a working actor, or that he’s just that gifted of an observer, he has an incredible eye for what you uniquely bring to the table as an artist, as well as where you can improve, and communicates this in a plain spoken, often humorous way. He tells it like it is, so you understand it. Do yourself a favor and take his class!

As a Candian actor, with the borders closed, Maury was able to adapt and bring the acting community together with his online workshop. As we do scene work everything dissipates and it feels as though I am back on set with only my partner in front of me. The online class delivers a level of intimacy with the camera that sometimes is harder to achieve in a classroom setting. Maury is by far the most in-depth, connected and talented person I have met.  He brings a level of care and understanding, creating a safe place to be emotionally open to the character and scene work.  Regardless if you are a seasoned actor, or simply starting. Maury can work with you and create something beautiful.  There is a reason we’ve worked together for a long time, I can bring all I have learned onto the set and in my prep work.

3 sessions into Maury’s class, I was able to book a role on Blue Bloods. Not only did he teach me techniques, he also made me believe in my talent.

Maury Ginsberg has helped me more in my growth as an actor than any other teacher I have worked with. He genuinely cares about his students. He is truly invested in the growth and development of each one of us. There is always an instant feeling of comradery in his class which is so wonderful and conducive to creativity. Maury recognizes that we each have our own personal strengths as well as obstacles to overcome. I have been fortunate enough to work with Maury both in person and through his Online Acting Gym. I have grown exponentially in such a short amount of time whilst attending these sessions. Due to his extensive experience as an actively working industry professional, Maury has been able to bestow upon his students a wealth of knowledge that typically may be hard to come across in a traditional acting classroom setting. Maury fosters a creative environment that motivates students to express themselves confidently, as well as encouraging them to explore a scene and discover as many different approaches as possible. As an international student, opportunities to learn from established actors can be difficult to obtain, so the accessibility of an online class was an invaluable experience for me.

Working with Maury in the online “actor’s gym” during Covid was a life saver on many levels. First, I have never worked with anyone who breaks down text and scripts in such detail as Maury does. He’s kind of like “the script whisperer,” if you will. He loves film and knows how to talk through the discovery of each moment in the story and chart out the journey that’s there for you to take as an actor. He gives notes that are clear, encouraging and nurturing. You can tell that he loves actors too and genuinely wants to see you grow as an artist. I learned so much from both working on scenes as well as watching the other actors work in class. There were times during this quarantine life that I felt really lonely and low.  Some of those times, being a part of Maury’s class reminded me of the creativity that lives in me, and of the actor I was and aspire to be. It fed me.

He has a deep love for the theatre, is magnetic on the stage and is devoted to teaching people the true essence of acting. A teacher of great artistic integrity and a life long friend.

Maury Ginsberg is one of the few teachers I’ve had whose lessons I actively apply in the industry.  As well as exploring the emotional Maury taught me ways of analyzing and organizing the information in a film script that has been vital to working as an actor in the professional world.

Maury taught me techniques to use during an audition… to give a casting director and director exactly what they want and need from me as an actor! He has remained my acting coach helping me nail the auditions that I have been called in for by top casting directors in the business! When I booked The Delivery Man, a Dreamworks film, I called upon him to help me understand the script and he advised me about what and what not to do while on set and was always there whenever I needed him to be!

I have had teachers before and since, but Maury is the only one I have truly connected with.  It has been my great fortune to study with him since he arrived  in N.Y. from L.A. My acting has never been better!
